i have an interest in protecting our environment and animals for my children and future generations. i try and convert friends, family and colleagues to free range, organic and non-animal tested in everything. i want to start my own vegetable and fruit garden. initially the idea was organic but i have now read in simply green, jul/aug 2009 that permaculture is really more sustainable. i currently work shifts so would like to volunteer and learn more about permaculture gardening. i am 35 though.

Hi guys, my name is Patricia Mlangeni, iam 33 and just started an organic farm in Pretoria. Iam in need of training as iam farming from a book and articles i find in different magazines. I have 10.5h farm wich needs good planning and correct training to turm it into a well permacultured organic farm. I have no support from my agriculture extention officer as he thinks iam a nut case, i’ll never make it and so on. I have no formal training in farming but iam passionate about it. Please consider my application as this will make my kids and husband proud and when i make it, i would like to start a learning center that will involve HIV support groups from the local clinics. Thanks

Thank you for your interest and input! We are now open to volunteers of any age but have specified a minimum commitment period – the truth is, we have had too many people popping in and out for half a day here and half a week there … and, practically speaking it has been more distracting then helpful.

We have lots of big community projects which would greatly benefit from committed Volunteers.

Let me know if you’re available and interested:)

Hi Ben, I did contact you a while back and did not get a response. I am in Jhb and am interested in getting involved as a volunteer. I am a hands-on person and believe in ‘a hand up’ is better than a ‘hand-out’. I am semi-retired and am looking for a worthwhile activity. Thanks, Patrick

    Hi Ben

My name is Hayley, I am a second year Environmental Management student at UCT.

I would love to join your programme to practically learn and apply more about sustainably. I believe it is a great empowerment project for communities and I would love to promote the sustainability of our environment. I would also love the opportunity to visit communities and help them with sustainable food growing. I volunteer as a Functional English tutor in Athlone and I really would love to assist more in community work, especially if it involves Environmental experience in the process.

I am not yet sure what I will do with my degree, so therefore an opportunity to learn about sustainable [in practice opposed to theory] and community agricultural development would be a great start to some experience in where I can go after graduation.

I am aware that you require a full month of volunteering, however I am a full time student, but I would still like to get involved, even if it is over a few weekends, then more regularly in November after exams. If you are only seeking full time volunteers I understand. However, I really would like any opportunity to learn more about permaculture, so even if you have space for me to simply observe, I would be more than happy to join.

    Kind Regards

  7. Hi there guys! Congratulations on a beautiful website full of inspiring pics and messages! It really warms my heart to see good work like this being done 🙂
My family and I recently moved to the Garden Route. I finished a PDC in April and that basically gave me direction as to what I need to do. Permaculture is the way! Do you have a service in the area around Knysna to George?
I am busy getting the food gardens idea out there on this side. Still have some work to do. At the moment just busy in my garden. Dont have scope to volunteer for you, but thought I let you know there is someone this side also busy!
All the best with your work!

    Hi Ben

I am interested in volunteering and can commit to a month full-time. I am very keen to learn everything about permaculture and I think what you are doing is GREAT.
I live in the southern suburbs, Cape town. Do you have a volunteer program here or near-by?
If you could let me know, that would be great!

    Warm Wishes
